There are six types of insurance licenses in California:

You are required to complete 52 hours of pre-licensing education classes before you can take the Life or Fire & Casualty exam and 32 hours of pre-licensing before you can take the Personal Lines exam. You must receive a score of 70% or higher on your exam to obtain a license.
How do I register?
Pre-register by fax with a credit card or arrive a few minutes early to register on your first day of class or on online.
What if I miss one day?
Select a makeup date when that particular segment is offered again.

Will I always have to do Continuing Education?
Yes, until you have had your license 30 years or more without interruption and no enforcements, and if you are age 70 or older. If your situation is more complex refer to the Dept. of Ins. website www.insurance.ca.gov for clarification.
How does The LyteSpeed Learning Center submit Continuing Education hours to the California Department of Insurance?
At LyteSpeed Learning Center we process, prepare and submit the rosters daily, except weekends. This report is done electronically and the DOI updates this information within 24 hours of when it is received from LyteSpeed Learning.
What is the deadline for turning in my exams, answer sheets, and certificate request forms to The LyteSpeed Learning Center for insurance Continuing Education credit?
The end-of-the-month cutoff is a last-day-of-the-month postmark. You can, however, walk your exams and answer sheets in to the Encino office not later than the last day of the month and we will submit it to the DOI as explained above. This report is done electronically and the DOI updates this information within 24 hours of when it is received from LyteSpeed Learning.

Do I send my Continuing Education certificates to the California Department of Insurance?
No, they are for your own records. The LyteSpeed Learning Center will report your continuing education hours, electronically, to the California Department of Insurance on a daily basis, except weekends. This report is done electronically and the DOI updates this information within 24 hours of when it is received from LyteSpeed Learning. Your certification should be kept on file by you for 5 years.
Should I wait for my Continuing Education certificates of completion to send in my renewal fees for my license?
No, don't wait on your continuing education credits. Send in your fees on time, the sooner the better. If you are late with your fees, the Dept. of Insurance issues severe monetary penalties for being late. The fastest way to renew your license is online on the California Department of Insurance's website: www.insurance.ca.gov.
