LyteSpeed Learning is California’s favorite course provider for insurance pre-licensing and continuing education courses. We have served the state for decades, providing state of the art, easy to follow, competitively priced courses that are approved for your insurance licensing needs.
It is because we work in this world that we also know and recognize that the licensing world can be a bit confusing.
One question that we’re often asked is “which continuing education courses do I need to take to keep my insurance license?” and the answer can be a bit surprising.
Any Approved Course for Your License
Many people think that agents are required to take specific continuing education courses. But they are actually allowed to take *any course* that interests them, provided it has been approved by the state for their specific license needs.
For example, if you hold a property and casualty license in California, you can peruse all of our Property and Casualty approved courses and find the ones that interest you the most. As long as you meet the minimum hour requirement – which we are able to keep track of for you as part of the course technology that we use – you can learn about anything you want, and anything that interests you. You just need to make sure you reach the minimum course threshold.
Sticking to the P&C license example, you need 21 hours of P&C courses, and an additional 3 hours of required ethics courses. You can then go down the list of different courses and find the ones that interest you the most. For example, you can take:
- 11 Hours on the Basics of Business Insurance
- 4 Hours About Umbrella Policies
- 4 Hours on Commercial General Liabiltiy.
- 3 Hours of Our Video Podcast-Style Courses
- 4 Hours Anti-Money Laundering Course (for Ethics)
While someone else can take:
- 20 Hours on Personal Lines
- 1 Hour Video Course
- 3 Hours of Mandatory Ethics
Both receive the same credit, as our courses have been approved by the state and you have free range to select any one courses that interest you. You can also go over the 21 hours if you like, especially if you’re taking courses that interest you.
